Backup and Restore file not in Library--can't access
#1
I was sent a dbase with the instructions to first do a Backup and Restore and then open it in MobileSheets (I own the paid version). I did a Backup and Restore but the dbase is not listed in my Library. Incidentally, when doing the Backup and Restore I had allowed MobileSheets to delete existing files (I think that was how it was worded). I can't figure out how to access/open the dbase. Am I missing a step?

I can see the dbase in my Internal Storage folder with the Type listed as BIN file. I next tried to Import the file from there, but that didn't work ("Unsupported file type selected").

I've spent hours trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong, but nothing I found online seems to address this particular instance.

Thank you.

I've never used it but there is an 'Expose Database File' in Settings>Storage.

Thank you, but I had already activated that before doing the Backup and Restore.

A MobileSheets backup file is not a .bin file - it's a .msb file. You would generate that under Settings->Backup and Restore->Backup Library, and then restore that on another device under Settings->Backup and Restore->Restore Library from Backup. The database file itself is a .db file. While you could just replace the .db file in the storage location with a different file, if the PDFs aren't located in the storage location that it's linked to, then every song would fail to load.

Mike, I was able to perform a Backup and Restore, then Restore Library from Backup ("Restore completed successfully," etc.). The file is listed as an .msb file. But no matter where I try to restore it (Original File Locations or MobileSheets Storage Location), it never shows up in my Library.

I'm confused about the part regarding restoring the database on another device. I need to use the database on this device and don't understand where else I could backup and restore it.

Thanks again for your help.

Now you have me confused - did you use the backup functionality with an empty library and then restore that empty backup file? Or are you saying that other person created a .msb file for you and you are restoring that under Settings->Backup and Restore->Restore Library from Backup?

You are mentioning the database, but that only applies if you have a SQLite database file which has a .db file extension. You said you have a file with a .bin extension, so I don't even know what that is or how it was created. Can you get that other person to create a .msb file for you? Then you can restore that under Settings->Backup and Restore->Restore Library from Backup.

The latter: the other person sent an .msb file and told me to open by restoring it under Settings->Backup and Restore->Restore Library from Backup. I performed those actions but don't see it in my library. They didn't indicate that there was an additional step needed to find and open the file. I can't get further info from them. I did the Backup and Restore > Restore Library from Backup actions yesterday after reading your first reply to me.

Please ignore the .bin extension part of my first message -- that was before I successfully performed the backup and restore. I saw a .bin file by that file name somewhere else in the tablet. Maybe when I was attempting to import it from some location on the tablet before I managed to correctly perform the backup and restore, since I couldn't find the .msb file anywhere else at that time. I can't remember all the actions I performed a couple of days ago--lots of fumbling around in the dark.

Thanks again for your help and patience.

I performed those actions but don't see it in my library.

Can you please explain what you mean by this? Are you saying you can't find the .msb file when using the file browser, so you can't select it? Or are you saying that you restored the backup file successfully but aren't seeing something you are expecting in the library? Where did you save the .msb file on the device?

Thanks,
Mike

The problem is solved: evidently when I downloaded the dbase originally, it didn't download properly. Last night I downloaded Samsung Flow and used it to download the file again and this time the backup and restore actions were no problem. Thank you so much for all of your help; I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into troubleshooting!
