MIDI message misread?
#1
I am running MobileSheets on a Windows 11 laptop, connected through a USB to Host cable to a Yamaha PSR S950.  Alongside I have MidiView monitoring the MIDI
messages being sent from the PSR.  The latter is set up to send MSB, LSB, and Program Change to identify the song for which MS is to display the song sheet. Previously I had a similar arrangement using SongBook+ on an iPad. That worked (and still works), but aging eyes mean I need the notes on the bigger laptop screen.

Problem is that MobileSheets may be ignoring the MSB and LSB coordinates for some reason. That is to say that the songs starting with A are displayed  correctly when commanded, but a song further down the alphabet, identified with the same Program Change number but different MSB and LSB, comes up as the song from the A section, though MidiView shows the proper (different) Control Changes are being received on the Windows laptop as well as the Program Change.

The other oddity is that using the keyboard on the laptop to allocate the Control and Program changes directly does not seem to produce any effect. Allocation has to be done by setting the keyboard in MIDI listening mode, choosing the song on the PSR, and then ticking the MSB, LSB, and PC boxes in the listing which comes up on the laptop screen and pressing the two OK buttons.

Clearly, I must be doing something wrong.  Guidance would be appreciated.

Please post or send an example of one of the MIDI messages you have configured to mike@zubersoft.com so I can take a look at how you've currently configured it. Are you wanting to load the song when a single patch select message is received, which is composed of two control change messages and a program change? Or are you configuring it yourself with individual control change messages and a program change message? I also am not sure I followed what you said about the keyboard on the laptop not working. Are you unable to enter values, or are you saying that the MIDI messages that are created don't work, but work when created through the MIDI listen dialog? The two should be identical as long as you have set the messages up identically in both cases.

Thanks. I’ll email you with this.

I am not bothering you further with this at the moment because, in the course of preparing the material you asked for, somehow - not sure how! - I seem to have got things working. Thanks for your readiness to assist.
