Quick question before I try it and damage something.

The database and preference directory for Win10 in the user dir (I'm talking about the LocalState dir) isn't affected by choosing the
storage dir, right?

But is it interchangeable with the LocalState dir on another Win10 machine (like my Surface Pro) or is there machine specific information.

I'm asking because I'm considering synchronizing the whole LocalState directory through dropbox to keep the database and preferences in sync.

Correct, the directory for the database and preference files is always unchanged. It's interchangeable with the LocalState dir on another Win10 machine.
