Bug? Changing font sizes - V3.8.? V3.9 and V3.9.1
#1
I've been seeing random font size changes on the library screen.  I can't be certain when I first started seeing it but it was from sometime before 3.8.43, it may have even been ever since I've been using MS (October 2023), but I can't be certain of that).  I know every version since 3.8.43 up to 3.9.1 has done it.

The attached screenshots hopefully show what I mean.

One shot (showing the songs tab)* has the normal size font in the song list panel.
The next two are currently showing the oversize font size.
The final shot is showing collection contents (the same as shot 3) but back to normal size after exiting and restarting MS

I've even had situations where BOTH sizes are shown in the same screen where some items in the listing (be they songs, collections or setlists) are the normal size and some are the large size.

I'm using the E-Ink version of MS and these shots come from V3.9.1.

Oops, just realised that the 3 initial screen shots are Landscape and the final one is Portrait.  Please note that orientation is irrelevant to the problem, it occurs in both.

I just noticed another oddity.  When I realised that the orientations were different I rotated the tablet to see if that initiated a font size change, it didn't, BUT what it did do is while in landscape the collection name moved into a header over the listing, and when rotated back the collection name did not return to it's normal portrait location above the tabs and the collections tab now has the number of songs beside it in parentheses.  See 5th screen shot.

* At the time I was wanting screenshots this was the first tab that was displaying the normal size, the other 2 were stubbornly remaining with the larger font.  A later restart of MS resolved it for the 4th screen shot.

That's very strange, and most likely due to some kind of interference by BOOX with their implementation of the OS. They are probably trying to perform text adjustments which is fighting with the sizing that MobileSheets wants to use. Preventing that might require disabling optimizations altogether. I'll have to investigate it further.

Can you provide any steps to take to try to see the issue? I have the BOOX Tab X too, and I do not see any issues with inconsistent text sizes on the library screen. So I'm unsure what to do. I may need to see what optimizations settings you've selected (long press MobileSheets on the home page, then Optimize). Also, just to verify, you've installed the latest firmware available, correct?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
yup, latest firmware as of just a few days ago.  2024-09-11_14-58_3.5.4_fbdec6b69a.  Please note that this has gone on through at least 1 firmware update - just wish I could remember when I first noticed it.

I know of no way to make this happen - it just does sometimes.  I'll try to be more aware of it to see if I can identify anything.
As for the second issue: the number of songs/collection name location etc. (5th screen shot) the same thing happens with the trial version on my phone (NOT e-ink version).

Optimisations are:
Display tab:
DPI setting = 350
Use original DPI = Off
Bold fonts for regular titles, menus, and body test = Off
Eliminating font aliasing = Off
Automatically full refresh when switching pages = Off

Color tab:
Add text outline = 0 (slider all the way to the left)
Background Color = 0
Image Smoothing = Off
Other Colours:
    Icon Color = 0
    Cover Color = 60
    Webpage text color = 0
    Webpage text size = 100
    Embolden Webpage Text = On

Others tab:
Stay active in background = Off
Force to follow system orientation = Off
Scroll Distance = Off
Remove Startup animation = On

I'm fairly sure most, if not all, of these are defaults.  I did adjust some things under your direction early in the piece but I don't recall what anymore - in any case I'm pretty sure those adjustments were tests and everything was restored.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but I never exit MS*, or reboot** or shut the tablet down, just close the cover to put it to sleep.

* Unless there's some odd issue and a restart of MS might fix it.
** Except when required for things like software updates.

Hi Mike,
further to this issue, I'm just back from a rehearsal where I spent a bit of time in landscape mode.  Maybe 3 songs...  Anyhow, turned back to portrait and didn't notice anything, until I moved from the Collections tab to the Setlists tab, whereupon I was in large fonts.  Back to the Collections tab and the large fonts remained.  Couldn't explore further as the rehearsal was still in progress.

I didn't notice any problems until I needed to use landscape.

Thanks - I'll have to see if rotating between orientations causes unusual problems, such as BOOX changing the DPI for the application after a rotation.

Hi Mike,
I've had a few minutes to play around.
With MS set to NOT use full screen nor to hide the navigation bar:
  1. Open a collection and choose a song
  2. Rotate to landscape
  3. Go back to library page (I use the Left arrow/triangle in the nav. bar at the bottom)
  4. Select the collections tab and there's a very good chance the collections list will be in the large font - or even a mix where the top few collections will be normal, and then the font will get bigger.  NB there only seems to be 2 font sizes, Normal or Big.
  5. Rotating back to portrait doesn't seem to change things unless you do it BEFORE going back to the library page (step 3), then it seems to be inconsistent.

Some points to note.
The font size only changes in the listing section of the library display, the filters and tab names etc. are unaffected.
I use the tablet "upside down"* with the USB port at the top in portrait mode so I can access the port if needed for a USB pedal or charger.  The tablet is used on a music stand, not a tablet holder.
It only seems to happen if I need to use landscape for a chart and go back to the library before rotating back to portrait
I always rotate clockwise to get to landscape and anti-clockwise to get back to portrait due to the way the case works.*
I don't think these steps work every time, but seem to most of the time.

* This is probably irrelevant.

That's exactly the information I needed - thanks. If you rotate to landscape (you don't even have to load a song or anything), and then tap the X to clear the filters (doesn't matter if a filter is active) which refreshes the list, the font increase in size significantly. It looks like I just have some optimizations I have to remove so that the text size is always forcefully set any time any of the lists refresh.

Thanks,
Mike

I pushed out an updated build for this, so if you download the build, you should no longer see the font sizes shift.

Thanks,
Mike
