Automatic update not working?
#1
Hello,
Just tried to upload some music to my tablet using Companion.
After attempting to connect I get a message saying this version of Companion is out of date.
At least version 4.0.0 is required, so it seems I have had no updates for a while?
I have had a look at the 'about' and my version is 3.2.0,.

Not sure why as I have Automatic Update checked in 'Help'.

I am going to try a fresh install from the website and hope it overides the old version?

Thanks
Gerry

Further to above message.
I did a re-install from the website.I now have latest Companion, but it will not connect direct from tablet.
I have to manually connect.
I tried switching tablet wifi off and back on, no difference.
I have checked both Automatically connect to devices and Enable Advanced Connection  Options.
Still no joy?

Help please

Automatic updating with 3.2.0 was broken, so you have to manually update to the latest (4.0.10). It sounds like you've done that, which is good. Go through these steps as it could be a firewall issue (reinstalling the companion app can clear out the old firewall settings):

1) On Windows 10, go to the settings for your current network. One way of doing this is clicking the network icon in the taskbar at the bottom right corner in the Windows taskbar, then click on "Change connection properties", and on the dialog showing the network settings for your current network, click "Private". If "Public" is selected, it can cause packets to be blocked. On Windows 11, go to Settings->Network & internet, click "Properties" at the top right below the name of your ethernet or wifi connection, then change the network profile type to "Private network".
2) Next, go to Windows Firewall, click "Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall" and make sure both private and public are checked for MobileSheets Companion
3) If you still can't connect to your Android device after performing steps #1 and #2, then if you have anti-virus or firewall software running, you should try disabling them to see if they are interfering with the connection.
4) The last thing you should try is rebooting your router. This fixes connection problems frequently for users

The fact that a manual connection works means something is blocking the broadcast packets on the network. That's usually Windows firewall or settings in the router. If it was working before, then it's most likely Windows Firewall.

I did 1 and 2 above and now I can get a connection.
One odd thing, I opened the Companion App before trying to connect the tablet, which is what I have always done.
The Companion page I had opened just stayed the same, but another Companion page opened after I connected the tablet, with a connection.
Bit odd but I can live with that.
Thanks

I downloaded the new version from the MS website. It asked me to update and I ignored it.  Now it worked (when I tried to follow the prompt to update, it gave me an error message and asked if I want to repair it and it did not work right).
