Best practice to store a separat voice excerpt?
#1
If I have a Song with two Versions (for example SATB&Piano: 6 pages / SATB: 4 pages). And I want to store both into one Song, then I get one singe view with 10 Pages. Looks like a single pdf file. How can I separate these two versions? I don't want to make two songs from this two files, because thers are allready "My Song TTBB", "My Song - other arrangement".

Merge them,  SATB&Piano: 6/4, upload to MSP, snip into SATB&Piano: 6, SATB:4. The snips will show up in the main library separately but they will be in 1 file

Thank you for your reply, but that is not the way I wanted it to behave. I want to see one song in the library and then I want to decide, which file I want to use. Until now, it opens all pdf files and shows them as if it was one single file with a lot of pages.

Sounds like what you are asking for is another level in the interface (a bit like a directory); having selected this "directory", it will then show two more entries to allow you to choose which version you want.

This isn't possible with the current implementation (Mike has indicated that he will work on a versioning system at some point but I suspect that could be some time off based on all the things he is implementing).

So, what you can do is load each file individually and use something in the name to indicate the content. Use the filter mechanism to help show only certain types of song (use something in the name, collections or setlists).

You could use a CSV file to load a single pdf and create song entries for both, the first and the last.
This seems an overkill for just 2 songs and ends up with 3 entries

The simplest way is probably for you to load them as a single pdf and use a link point on the first page that will jump to the start of the second song (you either start playing the first song or you press the link point and jump to the 2nd song).
This give you a single song entry that you wanted

Yes, you understood me right. Since the song list in the library is very long, I would like to have more than just one PDF version within the song. Otherwise the List is getting twice as long as it already is. I thought there might already be a solution to this request.

Your Idea to use a link point is really great. Thanks for that! Maybe I use SmartButtons to load the other pdf-versions...

This is similar to my suggestion to be able to make a song a "root song" to which "subsongs" of the same title can be assigned. I was hoping this could be done (or implemented) with the versioning.

I imagine two possible further improvements. The root/sub files could be collapsible in the list so you can have only one entry per title in big collections or for sheets organisation. Also it would be need if the sub songs could share (some) of the metadata of the root song so it doesn't have all to be put in in all songs.
