Quick questions
#1
Hi

New user here. I want to create a CSV file. I think I got the basics but I have a few doubts.

1 I guess I can use Excel, right?

2 if so, tell me if I got formatting right.
- first row with the tags I want. (The two that are required and then anything I want)
- Fill each column with the data needed.
- Separate different entries in the same cell with |

3 then, after filling it with all the data, is it just a matter of saving it as a CSV? Is there anything else I need to do? Formatting or otherwise

Is it really that easy?

Thanks

Long time since I did a csv so quite rusty.

Several members have posted .csv files on the forum for published books, suggest you look at one of their files to get the layout

It also helps to put a collection as one of the fields (helps selecting entries to delete so that you can reimport the file after making corrections; you might need to do this more than once!.)
If you don't specify a collection then I believe that you can identify all the songs by putting the pdf name into the filter

I only use a csv when I know that the underlying file is not changing e.g. it is published. When the file is something that is produced by someone else in your group (and therefore subject to change) then I suggest printing the individual songs to a PDF writer (I use CutePDF) and importing them singly. The reason for this is that it preserves any annotations that you might have made (this prevents notes being shown on the "wrong page" or lost when the book is updated/swapped.

Obviously, this all depends on how many entries are in the .csv file (whether it is too much effort to split) and whether you annotate.
Instead of printing, you may find that there are some tools that can split a pdf into separate songs

Suggest start with only a few entries in the test file (can be the same pdf) to see how it works. Then blow away theses files/entries and reimport
with a full csv.

PS Always good to use MobileSheets to make a backup before experimenting like this (I backup using the Compamion)
