Personal Backup Name
#1
Hello,
We use Mobile sheet for a band.
Eatch member save his backup in the same Google Drive.
The reason is : we have a bacckup tablet in case of problem.
In that situation the memeber can restore his config in the spare tablet.

Could it be possible to remember or give a diferent Backup Name

MobileSheets_2025-01-26 can of course be saved in different directory BUT, one member fail selecting it and the general backup was replaced...

Id the name was keeped, that wasn't occure.

Drum_MobileSheets_2025-01-26
Bass_MobileSheets_2025-01-26

etc...

Could it be added to standards ?

At some point I could try to support a formatting option for the default backup name, but this is not a trivial thing to add, so I'm not sure what the timeline will be for that. If more users request it, that can help with determining priorities.

Maybe I haven't understood the question, but if each member is backing up their own library, wouldn't it be easier for each member to add their name to the file name, e.g. George_Drum_MobileSheets_2025-01-26.msb?

That's how I differentiate between the various instrument library back-ups on my devices e.g. 1st_trombone_2025-1-26.msb, 2nd_trombone_2025-1-26.msb etc.

Users don't belive in forum requests, i mean.A request is usefull or not...Lot of users asked for a memory of default backup directory, but nothing append. Confused

MobileSheets does remember the last used backup directory. If you create a backup, then go back in and tap the folder icon, then any of the selections, it will go right back to the folder you saved the backup file. So I'm not sure what you meant by that last comment, but I absolutely do listen to requests and address them when I can. There are a LOT of requests to work through though, and they take time. I will also be trying to address the request to automatically populate the default path and filename for the backup without having to tap the folder, but that only makes sense for local files. If you are complaining because I have not yet addressed that even though it was only requested last month, then that is a little unreasonable, and I would ask for you to be a little more patient than that, especially as that is a request from only one or two users, and not something I'm getting requests from lots of people for.

This appears to be a band problem, rather than a MobileSheets issue. It's very easy to give each back-up a unique name, as I've described. It's as easy as renaming a Windows file, which has been happening for decades. If the individual band members can't manage to do that (or even forget their own names), perhaps they shouldn't be using MobileSheets in the first place and should go back to paper music, or the librarian (or conductor) should be in charge of all the tablets.

How is your music library managed? My own band's paper library is, to a great extent, now digitised to *.pdf format. Each separate piece of music is broken down into parts and each part is prefixed with a number, so for example, 2 Flute Beatles Medley.pdf, 3 Oboe Beatles Medley.pdf, 4 Eb Clarinet Beatles Medley.pdf and so on through the instruments to 26 Mallet Percussion Beatles Medley.pdf. If your band members can't remember their own names, they only need to remember the number for their own instrument and use that a a prefix for their personal back-up. Using the numerical method would enable anyone in the band to find the relative back-up for any instrument.

As for members not believing in forum requests, Mike has developed and improved MS over the years, incorporating useful suggestions and requests from members, where that has been practicable. He hasn't, however, been able to develop a a method of getting the app to hold the user's hand. There is, however, a very comprehensive user manual.
