Update:
I wasn't very happy with the micro switches I used. They have very little travel and if I only gently pressed the pedal, sometimes it wasn't hard enough and the page didn't change. So I bought these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251479964616 - the extra travel allowed by the lever action makes it a positive change every time.
Of course, I now have eight spare micro switches, but I expect I'll find a use for them one day .
I've also re-connected the USB, having shortened it to a few inches, so it doesn't get in the way. If I ever need to use it, I just use an extension cable.
No timeout issues and battery life is good, certainly much longer than any gig or rehearsal I've done (and I always re-charge after same) but I would definitely recommend using Li-ion cells from a reputable manufacturer - some of those I had have proved very poor, performance-wise. I only have myself to blame, I forgot the old adage "buy cheap, buy twice". Same goes for chargers, there are some really crap ones out there.
