I have been looking at a resolution to the same issue (I am actually yet to buy a music stand) becasue I am using a Motorola Xoom - and it is heavy to hold for any length of time - but I had the same idea as above - I would put the tablet in a silicone case (or similar) that I could cut a couple of slits in the back of - and then thread through a velcro strip and feed it round the stand to hold it on.

I also thought about using the velcro straps that are hooks on one side and loops on the other (used for securing cables) as I thought these would be easier to use than standard velcro strips.
