I've batch imported around 6000 files without an issue, so the number of files generally shouldn't matter. Does the error seem to occur at the same file every time? If so, can you try breaking up the import into a few sections instead of all 900 at once to see if the problem is occurring with a specific file?

Currently it's taking about 10 connections to get to around 800 of the total of 900 - in the past I'd only need two connections to load all the songs.
I have tried:
1. I did try splitting the songs into two separate folders
2. Removing all the apps from the tablet - there is currently 7.5GB of space
But nothing seems to help

Each song is a PDF created in Word and about 400KB
The log on the tablet says 'ERROR - The tablet database does not match the PC. Rolling back changes and disconnecting
Sometimes, when it disconnects a sockets error appears on the PC - but is gone in a fraction of a second so I can't read any further details
All this is with sitting next to my WiFi hub
The error doesn't occur at a particular time but I guess it's often about 200 for the first connection then achieving progressively less for each subsequent connection until about 850 when it stops making any progress. 
A similar thing happens with my phone
