I have a number of options depending on what I am doing (sitting or standing and whatever instrument I am playing) for instance:
- a substantial music stand (aluminium) with large shelf, stable, heavy, room for stylus for annotations, scripts (paper stuff) etc.
- a cheaper music stand (always in the car) useful for sitting, it is stable enough
- a heavy microphone stand (heavy circular base) used with a tablet holder (good for playing standing), no angled legs (for anyone to trip over)
- a low microphone stand (usually used for kick drum, guitar amps etc.) for sitting, attached tablet holder, low angle legs, widely spread for stability.
Using the tablet holder, it does not block out as much (so I can see singer, conductor, pianist.)
I have also used a single mic stand with two tablet holders (slightly different heights and positions)
