At the moment, there is no way to access the metronome if you have performance mode enabled. Additionally, there is no way to auto-start the metronome. The metronome option that is accessible by tapping the circle at the top left of the screen is actually the setting that is supposed to auto-start the metronome when changing songs in a setlist, but it's currently not working as intended.
Version 5.0.0 is adding new features such as the ability to auto-start the metronome when a song loads, and to have a count-in. You can have the metronome count-in for a certain number of beats and then stop. I'm also putting in place the ability to turn pages after a certain number of beats of the metronome, and change tempos after a certain number of beats (for songs that change rhythms part way through). Hopefully with these changes you will have what you need.
