Restore from backup fails (Comp 2.2.3)
#1
  • Samsung tablet connected to PC.
  • Rework metadata of several songs
  • Add/Remove of some audio files
  • Terminate PC connection
  • Save backup on Samsung tablet
  • Copy backup to POV-tablet
  • Restore from backup on POV-tablet

--> fails "Fehler in der Backupdatei. Versuche Fehler zu überspringen"

  • Restore old backup on POV-tablet (that had always been working!)
--> fails "Fehler in der Backupdatei. Versuche Fehler zu überspringen"
There is much more free space on the POV, than needed!

  • No restore is possible anymore

  • Remove MsP from POV (deinstallation)
  • New installation of MsP on POV
  • Restore old backup on POV
    --> everything is fine

  • Retry to restore Samsung-backup on POV-tablet
    --> Same problems

Are both tablets running the same version of MS Pro? I'm assuming you updated both to v1.3.2, correct? I just want to eliminate any problems due to version mismatches before I dig into this.

Thanks,
Mike

I figured I'd post here to let you know a change in how I open MS and the Companion that might help avoid problems when a new version of MS or the Companion is issued.

(I think following the instructions) I used to start MS on the tablet, push the button to sync, and then open the Companion.

But, sometimes I would start the sync and then see there was a new version of MS. Then, I suspect between updating the Companion and the syncing, this might have cause a glitch.

So, now, I start the companion before I push the "sync" icon on the tablet. I make sure I have updated to the latest versions of MS (on the tablet) and the Companion (on the PC) before I try to sync.

[Also, stopped using a shortcut to open the Companion because I was not sure the shortcut was always the latest version. Now I just go to Programs to open the Companion.]

I just feel like doing things this way makes sure I am all updated and avoid any glitches when new versions of MS and the Companion are introduced.

So, I am not sure I am right, but I figured I would throw this out there.

Hi
I'm having the same problem after updating to 2.2.3
When I try to read a backup file, companion freezes in the "reading backup file, please wait" window
screen attached.

It seems not to be a problem of the backup-file, but of the restore-process.

When I looked into #Settings#Apps#MobileSheetsPro after the crash I got
Gesamt 3,87 GB
App 77,88 MB
USB-Speicher-App 0,00 B
Daten 465 MB
SD-Karte 3,77 GB

There was a message "zuwenig Speicher" (not enough memory).

After deinstallation and reinstallation of MsP, I restored the same backup-file successfully.
Gesamt 3,87 GB
App 77,88 MB
USB-Speicher-App 0,00 B
Daten 24,12 MB
SD-Karte 3,77 GB

I don't know what had happen, but now the system is working correct.

I always use the restore-options "delete all existing files" and "restore settings from backup" (german verison).
The samsung tablet, where I have created the backup, doesn't has a SD-memory-card. On the POV-tablet I have to use the SD-memory for the MS-files. Maybe the "restore settiungs from backup"-option is responsible for the problems?

SilenceDK - it turns out there is a bug in the companion app if you choose to create a backup without audio files. This is not a problem for backups created on the tablet. I will include a fix for this in the next companion update.

Vibraphon - if you also were creating backup files without audio files using the companion app, it's possible that this is the problem you were encountering.
