Is bigger update planned?
#1
Dear Mike... Thank you very much for updates you deliver to us. All current updates are connected with rather small improvements and bugs eliminations.

Do have any plans to bring us LET'S say bigger update.. maybe MSPRO 2.0 with noticeable changes?
Can you give us some info about nearest future of MSPro?
Much appreciated for any information.
Kind regards
Piotr

One has to ask, what do you think is missing from the existing version?

I find it hard to imagine any really major change.

Just look into Feature Requests and Ideas section of the forum. There are always some area to improve.

My focus for awhile now has been on finishing the Windows 10 version. My tentative goal is to finish it by next month so that I can have a beta for about a month and release it (hopefully) before the end of the year. After that, I'm going to be focusing on some of the larger enhancements I've promised such as:

1) Reworking the annotations (and implementing a lot of the requests)
2) Adding the ability to have one tablet control others
3) Adding additional organizational features such as song versioning and additional custom categories

I don't see too many things that would warrant a release of a 'new' version - most requests are just changes or enhancements to existing features. I really question the practicality of some ideas.

For example, the ability to control a number of tablets from a single master unit (as mentioned by Mike).  This might work for single page charts, but I can foresee all sorts of problem with multi-page charts, where different players will want to change pages at different places.  Maybe the best option here would be to call up a specific chart by means of the master controller, but leave the page changing up to the individual users.

As Mike well knows, I am always a little concerned about feature creep in software which, if uncontrolled, can easily turn a great bit of software into an unusable piece of junk.  MSP is a great bit of software and I'd like to see it remain so.

Thank you for your answer. Now I know what I can expect.

That would be huge. It would make MSP great again.
It would keep lots of people here and not to use iOS.

@Graeme: I understand you as a solo musician don't need to control others but most of the music is written the way that you perform with somebody else.

I think musicians who need this functionality would make sure they read the manual, they would make sure to have same playlists, same score names, same page turning points.

You are right that MSP is a great bit of software but you nailed it above.

Professional musician does not need metronome, audio player, midi support, chord pro support or PDF to JPG converter.
There are tons of specialised apps in the Play store.

There is need for reliable SHEET MUSIC application on Android. Please look at the top of this web page: MobileSheets, Music Reader!
The ability to have one tablet control others is about music SHEET page turning.

Not about metronome, audio player, midi controller, multiple format/file converter/importer, photo scanner, word editor, clock/time reminder, print organiser, audio and photo editor.
It could also become sound recorder, it could support VR or what about to include couple of games or some Easter egg.

MobileSheets used to be a slim app.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I'm a solo player?  I have never worked solo, always with bands

My experience is players read ahead in different ways, some will do a page turn right at the the end of the current page, others a couple of bars before then - you must have seen this for yourself.  This is where the idea of of a 'master' tablet falls down.  I can see the minor advantage of being able to call up a particular chart for everyone but, after that, I believe it has to be up to the individuals to turn their own pages in the way that suits them best.

The only practical use I can imagine maybe is choir work where all essentially sing from the same sheet and have the exact same page turns. I don't see how other things like orchestra work, big band or even small groups effectively can be managed with a master tablet other than maybe opening initially identical charts.

Well, if Mike has some effective ideas for it all the better, but I'm sceptical of the benefit/effort ratio.

I actually get a large number of requests for the ability to have a master tablet load songs on all the other tablets. Some users also want to synchronize page turns, some don't. My plan is to give users the option for whether to synchronize the page turns so that everyone is happy.

I try to push back on features I don't think are very beneficial, but when I start getting a lot of requests for the same feature, I think at that point it's worth adding, as it obviously has a lot of value to a significant number of users. My goal is to keep the app as simple to use as possible, but provide powerful features for those that have more complex requirements. Hopefully you guys will keep me honest if feature creep starts negatively impacting the app in any way.

If you would go to see live symphony orchestra string players you would discover that two players share one music stand/part.
One of them keeps playing while the other one is turning the pages with NO page turn control whatsoever. You totally depend on the other co-player sharing the same desk and you get use to it.

Yes I have seen it. I am one of them.
The ideas would not be falling down if the humans would be more flexible.

I have to disagree.  Humans should not be driven by the technology!!

Yes. In this case you have a visual hint that the music is going to change (you see your collegue moving towards the music stand from the corner of your eye), also you know almost precisely when it is going to happen.

With pedal control, you do not have these clues and you (at least, I) may be distracted and lose track.
