You have multiple ways to avoid that:

1) Don't create the backup file with settings (you can just uncheck that box if you don't want to include settings)
2) Don't restore the backup file's settings (just uncheck the checkbox)

I don't allow the storage location to be changed to an invalid location, so that's not something to be concerned about.
