Separator between composers
#1
Hi, when I set everything up, I did the composers' names like this: John Smith. It looks nicer in the library and at the top of the song display. There are commas between composers.
John Smith, Joe Brown

I've had trouble weeding out duplicates, such as:
John A Smith, John Alva Smith, J A Smith, Jon Smith
(and on more complicated ones, misspellings, as well)

because under the composer tab, they are in alphabetical order by first name, which is not ideal.

So, I started renaming them to put last name first. It looks nice under the composers tab and it's easy to see if I can consolidate, for instance, I notice I now have
Sherman, Richard
Sherman, Richard M
then I can adjust and eliminate duplicates.

I did not, however, anticipate the problem in the library and top of display.
Now, for example, a song with three authors looks like this:
Cousin, Anne R, D'Urhan, Chretien, Rimbault, Edward F

What a mess!  Is there any way to have a semicolon to separate multiple composers?

At the moment, no, you can't change what delimiter is used for separating multiple values. That's something I would have to add as an option somewhere. If users think it is the right thing to do, I could default to just having the composers field use semi-colons instead of commas to separate the values.

I, too, would be interested if others would want this change. I don't want to rock the boat. I'm not opposed to putting it back to first names first. It certainly looks nicer at the top of each song. Sorting by last name is easier, though. So, I'm conflicted. What does everyone else think?

As already requested several times: that a songlist can be reused as a CSV file, a separator is required, that is not a comma, preferably a |
Different separators between columns and multiple values within a column must be possible, typically ; between columns and | between multiple values.

It would be perfect if a composer entry in the database could have its own meta data fields similar to a song, ideally composer`s meta data fields could be specified by the user. If that feature existed, I would define a "sort name" and "date of death" (because the year when the last composer or lyricist of a song died is essential for European copyright).
