Companion install error
#1
I just tried to download and install (both normally and as administrator) MS Companion on my Windows 10 (home) desktop.   Both times, the installer returned an "0x80070005 - Access is denied" error.  The last few lines of the logfile are:

I am trying to attach the whole logfile below, but the file doesn't appear to be opening in the box (mouse connects to my File Explorer, but "Open" doesn't bring the file into the post.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong).   Can cut and paste the entire file into a subsequent post if the information above is insufficient.

The installer asked me to "fix the issues" and retry.  Sadly, such a fix is beyond my computer skill set.   I hope that someone can help.

Thanks,

That looks to me like a permissions failure. Someone at this link https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...4cf05e819c states:

The error code 0x80070005 is also known as ACCESS DENIED. This error usually occurs when you lack file or registry permissions that are required to install the update.

Are you running the companion app installer with administrator privileges?

Good news.  While the error DID repeat when I ran the installer as an administrator yesterday (and the log file was identical to the one I got on the first, non-administrator, attempt), when I rebooted my desktop and ran as administrator afterwards, the installation was successful.   What every IT department tells you, right?   Reboot and retry...

Now to start playing for real....
