msf file format documentation
#1
Hi

I've been using MS on my android tablet for years (and love it). I also maintain a system for my choir that keeps track of PDFs, midi-files, mp3-files and some metadata about songs in the archive (now 500+ songs). It struck me today that it would be much nicer to provide msf-files rather than the plain PDF-files for the MS users in the choir, but I haven't been able to find any official documentation for the msf file format. It doesn't seem to be a standard zip archive.

Is there any chance there is a file format documentation available anywhere for external software developers that want to provide msf-files to their users?

.msf files have a binary format, and the information in them is frequently changing as new features are developed (they are backward compatible, but when changes occur, you cannot import a .msf from a newer version in an older version). I'm happy to discuss this more with you over email, but you would have to write code to break apart all of the data in the .msf file.

Maybe to set pdf Metadata for all the needed fields will be easier?
That let it still be compatible with all systems.

It would not allow me to bundle midi and mp3-files with the pdf, so the msf-file approach will give more functionality (and a some more work for me, that that is part of the package for a software developer Smile ). Maybe somewhere down the line, I can support shared annotations, bookmarks etc etc between users via the archive. who knows.
