Metadata not syncing
#1
Hi - I'm on Windows 3.9.7 and ipad 3.9.6.

In doing one-way syncs, with windows computer as server and ipad as client, I have been doing a one-way sync after adding a new song. Even though I have checked the box for metadata, it's not been copied to the other device.

I have tried both directions: (ipad as client in both scenarios)
After adding new song (or making changes) on ipad: update server
After adding new song (or making changes) on computer: update client

The song is added, and annotations (which I have checked, as well) are being copied over, in either direction, but metadata is not.

Thanks for looking into this!

Please provide a screenshot or list of selections you've made on the sync library screen. I just tested synchronizing over WiFi between my PC and iPad, and it worked great. I imported a new PDF, added metadata to every single supported field, then synchronized that new song to my iPad, edited the song on the iPad and verified every piece of metadata was transferred. So I can't reproduce what you've described.

Thanks,
Mike

I posted some screenshots of my settings and the outcome.

One thought ... I think I might have read in forum post something about a problem with icons and emojis?

I hope this isn't the problem, as I use them extensively. I have called my custom group name "Extra Info" and I use icons and emojis to show a lot of information on the library screen, if it's a hymn, a chordpro, or written-music pdf or lead-sheet pdf. Many songs have several versions and I can tell instantly which one I want. I also use other icons to represent styles or genres, such as from a musical, movie theme, etc.

The icons, although they look slightly different on each platform, there's no problem with all of them showing. I don't really use ms on my phone much, so I haven't bothered to sync it. And this is the first time I am using the sync between windows and the ipad.

I set it up to use windows as server, and the ipad  as the client.

I first made changes in windows, and synced. Then metadata did not come through. Then I did changes and added new songs on the ipad, and synced the other way (to update server). Same thing, no metadata was transferred. Both annotations and notes transfer.

You unchecked "Sync Groups", so that's not going to transfer over any new groups that are created. Groups are Collections, Setlists, Genres, Keys, etc. Is there a reason you unchecked that? Your middle screenshot doesn't show the bottom so I can't see if the custom field or anything below that was transferred.

I'll have to run some tests with emojis - I have no idea if that would have any impact, but that would be very surprising.

Just got a chance to work on this - great news! It was the Sync Groups option not checked that caused it. I didn't put two and two together and didn't think about what that was for. Everything synced as expected! Thanks for the help!
