Re-read meta tags from ChordPro files
#1
Question
Hey!

Is there a way to trigger a re-read of an existing (re-imported = overwritten) text file? I bulk added meta tags for release year and tempo to a lot of chordpro files, but when I reimport them, the tags are not processed. Deleting and freshly re-importing the files is not an option because I'd loose all annotations and display settings for the files, especially as I am syncing the file content with multiple tablets through GoogleDrive and the different tablets have different annotations for the "same" text files (thus a plain backup/restore from one tablet to the others doesn't cut it).

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Udo

How about updating database entries with the tag content from the ChordPro file when "swap file" is used?
(This is also a request for Mike, currently it also doesn't update tags in the MobileSheets database)

That's exactly what I want/need (just in other words ;-) )
Or is there a difference between swap files and overwrite files?

Swap files works just for a single song. It replaces the file that is used and keeps all database entries, including annotations, setlists and so on. My request says that tags from the new file shall overwrite the according existing values in the database. Other values that are already in the database shall stay untouched.

Import and batch import are different user actions.

I am not opposed to adding an option on the import settings dialog to overwrite existing metadata for a song if any ChordPro files were imported (if Settings->Text File Settings->Use Text Fields During Song Creation is checked). Similarly, I'm not opposed to adding that same option on the swap file dialog. I don't know if I want that to just be the default behavior without a setting though, as otherwise users would lose any metadata they entered after importing if the ChordPro file specifies something different, which may not always be expected.

Great. That's it.
The respective dialogs is not "Import Settings" but "Import Local File", "Batch Import" and "Swap File" or a general setting next to "Use Text Fields During Song Creation"
