Trouble with cloud sync
#1
When I try to set up a sync with iCloud, it appears to begin with the first file and then stalls.  I was able to do a device-to-device sync, but that's not as convenient in the long run.  All tunes are .abc
Any ideas?

Would it be possible to include a swtch so that the settings for the libraries are sync'd as well?  I noticed particularly since I have about a dozen "ignore this when sorting" that did not move over to the other device.  Not a huge deal.

That brings to mind another thought.  Is it possible for MobileSheets to ignore the words regardless of where they occur in the title?  For example, I have a lot of French-Canadian tunes and it's helpful (particularly to folks who do not speak French) to collapse all the variants of "to" and "of" that change with gender and number.

Thanks.

I am having the same trouble
I'm working with Clous Sync (with OneDrive) for longer times with no issues:
Since a few weeks I have the same troubles. Sync starts, waiting indefinitly on the first file to transfer. (same issue on macOS and iPadOS)
Same issue with iCloud and OneDrive (I have tested both)
Direct sync between devices is no problem.
Any advice?

I eventually will support synchronizing settings as an option. I don't know why you are seeing the stall with iCloud. Can you try to use a different cloud service like Google Drive to see if that gets you past the problem? The way iCloud is implemented is really problematic in my opinion (I've discussed this in other threads on the forum), so MobileSheets may be sitting there waiting for the file it tried to upload to iCloud to actually show as being uploaded.

As far as "ignoring the words", ignore it in relation to what? Sorting? Or something else? Have you looked at the option to "Ignore articles while sorting"? You can choose what words are ignored while sorting, so that's one way to get what you are asking for.

jt_ma - The fact that you are seeing the same problem with both iCloud and OneDrive is puzzling. Can you also test Google Drive just so we have that as a data point? If that one also fails in the same way, then I may need to work closer with you on that as there may be a larger problem with the library.

Hi Mike
it's really a strange behaviour.

Let me tell you what I tested (my system: MobileSheets with macOS, iPadOs)
- macOS, IPadOs: Sync with Google Drive -> works
- macOS, IPadOs: Sync with OneDrive -> doesn't work app freezes during uploading first file (after deleting content of sync directory)
- Trying same with windows ( I downloaded a test version o Mobile Sheets) -> works with Onedrive  Confused
- macOS, IPadOs: Changing private oneDrive Account to another account (OneDrive for Business)-> works  Huh
- macOS, IPadOs: changing back to original private OneDrive Account -> doesn't work.....
- macOS, IPadOs: I used an older Backup of the library -> doesn't work

Doesn't seem so be a general Issue with Onedrive, but with my specific account with MacOs
But I have no idea what this could be. I removed the authorisation in my OneDrive Account and set it new -> no change...
I have a solution (using another OneDrive account) but it would be more than interesting to understand what's going on...
especially because I worked about a year with the OneDrive sync
Note: "doesn't work" means, Sync freezes during uploading the first pdf file
regards

Thanks for the replies.  I'll try the sync with another service (though I prefer not to use it on an ongoing basis).

I think I may not have been as clear as I might have been about my hopes for "Ignore articles while sorting". First, thank you so much for including this and for allowing the user to choose which words to ignore.

What I had hoped is that the specified articles (and in my case prepositions) would be ignored wherever they occur in the title.
As it stands, "de" in De Profundis is ignored, a great advance over most tune sorts.
On the other hand, "de" in Reel de Mattawa is not ignored.

This can be an impediment for folks who speak languages whose prepositions do not incorporate gender or number. They can have a little trouble finding tunes if, say, Réel du cultivateur follows Reel de Sherbrooke, which precedes Reel des ouvriers.
It's not a huge deal, but if it can easily be incorporated that would be great.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I went ahead and tried to use sync to cloud using Google Drive. Everything seemed to upload just fine.
I then installed MobileSheets on my MacBook and loaded that up by syncing to a backup.
To see how the cloud sync worked now that it had been successful one way, I changed the meta-information (specifically the title) of one tune and then sync'd to the cloud folder.
That might have worked...
I think that I'm not .understanding something about the structure of the database because it seems wrong to me that the old name of the file (without any metainformation) reappeared following the sync. It shows the same file as the version where I changed the title - though the I could still find the tune under the changed title.  Both seemed to be the same file (or perhaps a copy?).  I think I need to read parts of the manual again.

Also, am I correct in assuming that cloud sync must be initiated manually rather than syncing automatically

I've been testing more on iOS and the problem appears to be when uploading large files to a personal OneDrive account. The API is erroring out and indicating "Unauthorized" for some reason. I was testing primarily with a business OneDrive account originally, and that is why I did not encounter this problem. I am working on fixing it for the next update.
