I switched from ForScore. I'm glad I did!
#1
I bought ForScore several weeks ago.  I havn't had time to go through the infinite details of how to do this and that.  I needed to do something tonight.  I specifically bought a new iPad Air 13" with an Apple Pro Pencil to use ForScore since it seems most of the people I know use it.  ForScore is HORRIBLE at being intuitive.  I was so angry, I bought MobileSheets - wow, I did some immediate annotations without a manual or seeking anyhow to's.  I love software to be intuitive, not a bunch of icons you have to constantly memorize.  MobileSheets is TERRIFIC!  I just wanted to state that and hopefully it will get to the creator as I appreciate the product he has developed.  I don't need to do that much - just annotate, add measure numbers, and use my PageFlip.  MobileSheets did that for me within 10 minutes.  I'm not here to bash ForScore, but whoever created it, doesn't understand intuition and logical flow through.

BRAVO to MobileSheets and a HUGE THANK YOU for truly creating a product you can simply dive into.  ForScore was going to be quite the persnickety software to find out how to do the basics.  Their manual is rubish.

Truly money WELL SPENT for a terrific app!!  Thanks!

Thank you for that kind feedback Gary! I'm so happy that MobileSheets has worked well for you and that you were able to start annotating and using the app so quickly. There are probably features that you will uncover as you continue to use the app that will benefit you, but I definitely do my best to keep things as simple as I can with the UI (there are just many optional settings).

My feelings exactly. MS was my first sheets app and I stayed for it when I changed tablets from Android to Windows and to iOs when it was available.

Just out of interest I bought also forscore (and piascore) not with the intention to change but to see if they do something other or better than MS which I could again suggest to Mike for implementation.

I never made more than a few steps with forscore because I agree that it is (IMHO) very unintuitive (though I think that about Apple and iOS in general, so it could be me).

I believe there will many more users migrate from forscore to MS than the other direction just because of MS being better and having an unbelievable service by Mike. It's probably mostly inertia/laziness from being used to a program and having it set up there why not more user come over. But I'm sure (at least I hope) that the numbers of new MS users is satisfactory to Mike anyway (just assuming from the business of the forum).

I have used OnSong on an iPad since 2011. When a young guitarist in our church came with his parents' Android tablet I looked around for an app that works on Android as OnSong doesn't.

I bought ForScore, not realising that it, like OnSong, is iOS only. Oops!

Then I found and bought MobileSheets so that I could understand it and help the lad. Within 3 months I stopped using both OnSong and ForScore and now recommend MobileSheets to those who ask. Mike comes across as both more active and more reactive than the other apps. Long live Mike and MobileSheets!

I, too, was a long time (10 years) user of ForScore.  I recently tried out MobileSheets and I actually like it much better.  I'm still working out some issues, but I can say with absolute certainty that the support for MS is far, far superior to ForScore (and I even paid for Premium FS support).

While certainly more "techie", things like Sync with MS are more flexible, transparent, and easier to understand than the mysterious ForScore sync feature.  I love the tablet->tablet sync but standardized on syncing to a shared cloud drive folder.

Net, while I'm only in this for about 2 weeks, I've already moved two of my band projects over to MobileSheets.  Even have the MIDI working to cue up my patches via bluetooth MIDI.

ForScore did away with its remote access management tool.  It was amazingly great to be able to fire up the MS companion app and update my metadata.

Thanks for sharing your experience - that's always really helpful so I can see what features are benefitting users switching over from other products like forScore, and areas where there is room for improvement (I know aesthetics is a big one for a lot of people).

Mike,

While aesthetics are certainly important, 90% of the time you're playing charts and scores and this is basically just displaying a nicely formatted PDF with reliable navigation.  The other 10% of the time when you're managing your library I think that functionality trumps aesthetics.  I like that you have more robust filters available when creating setlists.  I also like that the forscore concept of Libraries is more easily managed using Collections in MS (while still having separate databases if the user is so inclined).  In FS you can't search across libraries once one has been "selected" when creating a setlist.  This was a huge problem for me when I wasn't diligent about metadata.  With MS, I can always just change the filter when creating a setlist and correct my errors in 1/2 the time it used to take with FS.

As a tech guy, I may appreciate the functionality more than the look.  Your sync is VERY GOOD, and I like that I even get access to the sqlite db and all my PDF's as backups.

So don't sacrifice awesome functionality just to make it look prettier.

[EDIT:  I've since learned more about being able to format the library title and song titles so I can now get the # on the set lists.]
