Setlist Notes - how to access this feature?
#1
(later edit)  For anyone just looking for how to access & enter Setlist Notes - see answer #4 below.  The 3 replies following that also shed some light.

----

Hi, I'm likely just missing something obvious...I'm building my first setlist for actual use at a gig, and wish to use this feature.  But I'm not seeing how to enter these notes.  I've opened my setlist & hit the Edit link at the top...got my list of songs...but unable to see how to enter notes.    I've also scoured Settings with the top-right link...maybe these are context-specific & I haven't hit the link when at the correct place?

If there's a youtube tutorial or another post, a link to it would be fine.  Thanks!

While in a song, tap the middle of the screen then the clipboard icon at the top left.

Thanks for answering - and yikes, I'm still missing something.  When I tap or slow-tap or hold-top in the middle of the song's image, all it does is advance to the next song.  Any thoughts about what else I'm missing?

...this is while viewing the setlist tab, I get a full list of the songs, tap on a song to view the song's image.  That's where I do any kind of a tap or long-tap in the song's image.

Aha - found it - when I'm viewing the list of all songs in the setlist, and long-tap a song title, and then hit the triple-dot options icon at top-right, that context menu now shows "View/Edit Notes".  Once selected, I have to select the checkbox to "show notes" or the note doesn't display in Performance Mode - I then enter the text I want - I then have to Preview, and only then is there an OK button to save it.  Repeat for each song for which I want to enter a note that pops up during the performance.

Have you changed the setting for "Overlay Toggle Mode"? By default this is set to a single tap, but can be set to long press or swipe diagonally. I suspect you have it set to swipe diagonally.

Although I can't find an option that advances to the next song when tapping the middle of the screen. Have a look at the touch action settings too, maybe something in there is causing this.

Anyway, it sounds like you can achieve what you want via a different route, it's just odd that tapping on the song didn't work.

As I understand MobileSheets, touching the middle of the screen toggles between the normal view and the song overlay (accessing all the editing options). The only time that touching the middle of the screen advances to the next song is when you have performance mode enabled.

Ruh-roh....yes, I am a newbie, and y'all are making me research & learn more.  OK fine!   ...I do appreciate the two of you for taking the time.

AndyL, I'm now looking at the Touch Overlay Mode setting...and yes I'm set to single-tap.  Lester, you nailed it, yes I am in Performance Mode...this is where my newbie ignorance is showing.  Overlay Mode?

In settings, I see "Enter annotation mode with stylus input"...OK, what's Song Overlay?  ...AHA this forum page sheds some light.  In Performance Mode (which is where I am) that lock icon toggles me between Performance Mode & Overlay Mode.

Now I see a graphic options wheel for many different annotations.  Tapping the center of the wheel collapses the wheel, now I have a small dark teal circle , tapping again expands it for access to the overlay functions.  I don't seem to have a center-of-page-tap action, and the toolbar with the lock icon is no longer present, hmm so experimentation is now called for...  I'm on version 3.9.7.

Well thanks guys - I've solved my current need & there's more for me to unravel.  i appreciate your eyes & thoughts, I'm sure I'll have more questions & posts in the future.

There's lots to learn, so don't worry about asking newbie questions, very few of us know it all (I'd forgotten about performance mode).

With a song displayed, if you turn off performance mode then tapping the centre of the screen switches overlay mode on and off (assuming you haven't changed the settings I mentioned before).

When in overlay mode there is a banner across the top and bottom of the screen with a number of icons. The first three on the top banner switch between different editing modes.

The first one, that looks like a clipboard, lets you edit the song notes, which is where we started.

The second one, that looks like a paint brush, is the mode you talk about with the wheel. This lets you type stuff on the music. This is actually the overlay. This has lots of modes controlled by that wheel. You can do things like freehand drawing or stamping symbols or writing text.

The third one, that looks like a pencil, lets you edit the song. This is the same editor as when you created the song in the first place, so you can change the title, collections, etc.

I suggest you create something new and play with all the buttons to see what they do.

There is also stuff about this in the manual around page 74.

I'm running 3.9.11, so you might want to check google play for an update, although none of this has changed recently.

Regards

Andy
