Best way to manage a theatrical script
#1
Hallo,
I'm pretty new to MS, coming from a more basic app.

I'm a musician and I have to play during a theatrical act.
I have the script that the actors follow and at determined points starts a song we have to play.

So I have the PDF of the script and the various PDFs of the song.

In the app that I was using before, I used two different approaches: Sometimes I just edited the script's PDF before importing and embedded the pages with the songs chords inside it. Other times, always before importing, I cut the script's PDF where the songs will be, theh I imported the differnt PDF parts as differnet songs, interleaving them with the songs PDF.
In both cases during the performance I go forward from page to page, from song to song, with a bluetooth pedal

Now that I'm on MS, as I understand is more powerful with PDF management, I'm wondering if there are better way to manage ths scripts and the songs.

I would like not to have to edit it before importing. Maybe using snippets? or maybe using link points or smart buttons?

Mobilesheets has several ways you could do that.

If the songs and script go together, you can add all of the PDFs to the same 'song ' in mobilesheets and adjust the page numbers so that everything is in order.

If the songs might be used independent of the script, make individual 'songs' in mobilesheets for the script and each of the songs. Then add them to a setlist. You could then add smart buttons in the script to jump to the correct songs and add smart buttons in the songs to jump back to the script.
Alternatively, you could make a 'song' for each part of the script that occurs between songs and add those to a setlist between the songs. Then paging through the setlist would be about the same as splicing the PDF, as you have been doing (except that you can see the songs and script segments in the setlist view).

With as much jumping around as rehearsals tend to have, I'd probably go with the smart button option. Also, if you rehearse only the songs, then you have the option to jump song to song from the setlist view without needing to find the button in the script.

Thank you for your tips.

I agree: for the rehearsals I thiks it makes sens to keep script and songs indipendent because the file of the script could change often. So the smart buttons are the way to go.
Once the script is "stabilized" I could  make just a single "big" PDF with songs inserted in the right spot.

Tahnk you
