Many, if not all, of the song charts I get from band leaders are bad smartphone photos. The image correction features in MobileSheets are OK for getting a reasonably straight black-and-white image out of the photos, but almost always, the notation and text are too thin. Sometimes it's possible to improve the situation through countless iterations of hit and miss with brightness and contrast, but not always, and it takes forever.
Whenever I get to process such images on a PC, I use GIMP's "curves" filter, where I set a fairly sharp - but not fully vertical - transition from completely black to completely white to a place in the 0-1 range that works well for the particular image. With the curves filter, I am also able to thicken the text and the lines to get a much more readable chart. Having a sharp, but not fully vertical, transition in the curve lets the lines and text edges be naturally anti-aliased without becoming monochrome. This method practically always works in a straight-forward way, without iterating.
Would it be possible to get a "curves" filter in MobileSheets? I struggle with the bad photos with every single gig, and I cannot teach band leaders to take better photos or use image processing applications.
