adding new file to existing score
#1
Hey, folks!

I'm going a bit mental here.... playing the show 42nd Street. Production team decided at the last minute to swap out a song. Scanned the new song & imported it into MS. When I open the full score and try to add the new pages, I get an error message saying MS can't open the file. Despite the fact that I checked the file before starting this and MS opened just fine. Tried adding direct from OneDrive (instead of from the Library): same thig. Tried copying the file from OneDrive to the Onyx Boox download folder, checking to make sure I could open the file with Onyx's PDF reader, then importing into MS from there - same result. Tried to add it directly from the local drive (instead of importing it to MS first) - same result.

Can't rescan the original file, as there are already too many annotations that I can't afford to lose. Rescanning the two page insert is a possibility, if y'all think that will help - although I've already buried my scanner and it'll be a pain in the tuckas. Attached is the file in question - suggestions?

I don't know how you are trying to add the extra pages but the following should work

1) Copy the file to a local folder on the the tablet
2) in MS, display the original song name on a collection or SetList or Songs page
3) Long press the original song until checkboxes appear
4) "Edit song" on top menu
5) Tap "Files" (2nd tab, Fields is first)
6) Tap "big plus" and choose the 2 page pdf
7) Edit the page order to put it in the correct place e.g. 1-12, 42,43, 15-41 (assuming 13 and 14 being replaced)
8) Crop the new pages as required

PS I've never had the need to do this but it should give you an idea of how to do it.

Geoff's instructions are close to being correct but he's missing the part where you would either need to merge the two PDFs together to be able to change the page order, or use the "Rearrange pages" screen to insert the second PDF inside the first. This tutorial video covers a bit of that: https://youtu.be/wXBy3l9mEPo

You can just add the second file, tap the three dots, then tap "Combine Files" to combine the two, then edit the page order to place the second file in the correct position within the first.

I tested importing your file on both Windows and Android and it works fine. I'm not seeing any issues at all. This is with version 3.9.17. If you go to Settings->About, are you running the latest version?

The issue may not be with that file though, the issue may be with the existing file in your library, and MobileSheets is unable to edit it. If you go to Settings->Display Settings->Render Preference and switch to "Speed", then try to load the song using that PDF. If it fails to load, then that's the issue - one of the PDF libraries that is used can't handle that file for some reason. That is the PDF library used when you want to insert one file inside another. So you have two options if that is the case:

1) Send the file to me, I will rebuild it, send it back to you and then you'll have to long press the song, tap the three dots at the top right, tap "Swap File" and then select the PDF I sent you. That should repair it and then you can insert the two pages you need
2) You'll have to either rebuild the PDF yourself using an application like Adobe Acrobat from the extracted images of the pages, or you can merge the two pages into the PDF using an external application. Then use the "Swap File" instruction I mentioned above to swap in the new version of the PDF to replace your existing PDF.

This all assumes you have not embedded your annotations - if you did that, then everything becomes more complicated, and I'll have to walk you through the steps necessary to deal with that (you'll have to copy out the PDF used by MobileSheets under the storage location so you can edit that file to merge in the two pages).

Don't remember the exact wording, but I've always done this sort of editing from within Page Rearranging - where you see thumbnails of all the pages. I would scroll to where I wanted to insert the new pages, tap the three dots, navigate to the desired insert and it would just work. Until today. Both files worked fine individually. I actually finally solved it - but it will finish making me mental if I have to do this every time: I reversed it. Opened the two-page file and tried to add the 100+ pages of the original. THAT worked just fine. So I backed out of it without saving and tired ONE more time to do it the proper way - and then it worked.

I'm not sure I have any explanation for that if you didn't modify the original file with the steps leading up to that.

Well... I _did_ actually insert a blank page - partially as a place-holder (so I wouldn't have to remember the exact page #; I could just scroll until I saw the blank page) and partially because I was pretty sure I would need it to put the rest of the pages on their respective correct sides (I run two tablets as a 2-page spread). Maybe that put things right?

That would have modified the underlying file, so yes, that might have actually had an impact, as the PDF library probably made some modifications to the file to fix any issues it found.
