Sync music to sheets to enable auto page turn when playing back audio
#1
I've just started using MobileSheets for choral music, and am loving it,  but one thing I find myself wanting is the ability to sync the page to any audio files I've attached to the piece.  Sometimes I get lost when practising and want the page to auto turn when at the correct point in the music.

I've seen a comment on an old thread saying it's on your todo list,  but I couldn't findit implemented yet.

If like the option to
  • Auto turn the page as playback progressed
  • Jump to the correct page when I move the music time slider
  • Adjust the music playback to any selected page

I'm not looking for any fancy bouncing ball indicator just timing markers at the start/end of page.

I'm sure you have plenty of ideas on how to do it,  but wish it was there.  I even see you made a great comparison between MS and Forscore and pointed out that it was able to do it.

One other minor annoying feature is that when you tap a piece with a pen it immediately goes into edit mode and performs the current action,  e.g. if you have draw selected and tap the screen it goes to edit mode and puts a blob on the screen.  Maybe it could ignore the first tap.  I guess there is a timing issues in that the screen recognises the pen before it taps so I need to learn to stop touching the screen with pen.

But a config option would be nice...

It is not implemented yet unfortunately. If you manually change pages, that's not going to cause the audio to skip to a different playback position. That was never something I was considering. I'll have to hear more feedback if that's behavior users would actually want. The rest should all be supported.

As far as the pen, go to Settings->Touch & Pedal Settings and uncheck "Enter Annotation Mode with Stylus Input". You can then use a three finger tap or tap the brush icon to enter the annotations editor.

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply.

I've only been using MS for a couple of weeks, so glad I made the switch. When practicing new pieces of music it's easier to control where you want to start rehearsing from through page selection, so that way of controlling the music seems like a good idea to me. If you were also able to long press the audio player to increase playback speed if you need to start part way down a page, that would help navigation.

Is this something that's in the top part of your to-do list, or is it bumping along the bottom ?? and if near the top, is it something that's likely to come soon. Lots of big pieces to rehearse this year, with Bach's St John's Passion in July...

You can use smart buttons to start the music from a specific point. So you are also limited to changing pages. Create a smart button and use load and play audio track as the action. You can also set the exact start time there. Perfect for practicing for me.

It's higher up on the priority list, as I get this request a fair amount. I really struggle to try to provide estimates on release dates though - there are too many variables that can impact that.

Thanks for the tip,  I'll go investigate

Hi Mike,  thanks,  I've set that,  but it's a little non intuitive.  I'm holding the pen and need to switch to fingers.  It would feel more natural to have an option,  "Long Touch Stylus to enter annotation mode".

I'm not opposed to adding a new setting that will be enabled if "Enter Annotation Mode with Stylus Input" is enabled that would control that behavior. The setting could be named "Use stylus long press to enter annotation editor" or something along those lines. The alternative would be to have to change the current setting to something like "Stylus Gesture to Enter Annotation Editor" with values "None", "Hover" and "Long press".

That would seem like a great option - I know I could get used to the current mode, but at the moment, every time I enter annotation mode if previously I had pen selected, I have to undo or erase a blob on the screen, so happy to give this a test if you need some validation.
