Is the free version a limited version of Mobile Sheets Pro or is it still the old version?
If it is still the original version do i need to use the original version of Companion or will the Pro version of Companion work with the free version?

Match icon colors, blue for pro, green for original, older version. Free pro is the same as the paid version with some limitations.

What exactly are the limitations of the free version?

The trial version limits you to only having eight songs in the library, limits the number of link points and bookmarks that can be used, and also does not support using the sync library feature. The connect tablets feature will also disconnect after a short period. It's really only meant to be used as a means to try out the app before purchasing, not in lieu of the paid version.
