This is brand new behaviour...when I tap on import from Dropbox, instead of auto loading up the file list from Dropbox (whihc it did up to last night!) ...it re-directs to a web broswer??? Which then promptly stalls. And then when I close the browser window, the display shows Android Root folder (which is empty).
Has something changed overnight?

Nothing at all has changed with the dropbox implementation. It sounds like it may be trying to get you to log in and choose your account again. Try going to Settings->Storage->Change Dropbox Account and see if that will work.
