Same Tune Name - multiple versions
#1
For many tunes I have multiple versions of the same tune by different arrangers and I use them all depending on the venue. Greensleeves is an example.

Is it preferable to just call them (and the folder) Greensleeves and have all the different pdf listed within the folder or is it better to name each of the pdf differently so they set up their own folder...eg Greensleeves - Smith, Greensleeves - Jones, Greensleeves - Adams?

Thanks!

I have a similar problem, only with keys. I work with a lot of different vocalists (who all do much the same repertoire, but not always the same key and/or arrangement). I found it best to name the file "whatever tune - key.pdf". I then use the 'Custom' field to further differentiate (in my case, usually by vocalist). When displayed on the tablet, I see:

whatever tune - key [vocalist]

That way, all the versions are together, e.g.;

My Romance - Am [Elena]
My Romance - Gm [Nicole]
My Romance - Am [SueK]
and so on.

The last one is a different arrangement to the other Am version.

This means I can quickly select by the vocalist (assuming it's someone I work with regularly) or by the key required.

In your case, I think I would be inclined to place the Smith, Jones, etc., in the 'Custom' field.

I just include the arranger in the artist field to achieve the same thing.

Ie, Artist: "Irving Berlin - arr. Bert Barnes"
