It looks like it's not possible to rate a group of songs using batch edit, please see this GIF:

Batch editing works well with other fields, and also works with the Android version, but not with the current Windows version for me.

It didn't check the rating box when you changed the rating value, so it looks like a bug. If you manually checked the checkbox, I'm sure that would cause it to start working. I'll get it fixed for the update tomorrow.

PS: I've tried clicking the checkbox before applying changes, but that didn't fix the issue

Sorry - changing the rating control isn't updating the actual rating value that is saved in the code (the event handler is not set up correctly for that rating control). I have it fixed for the next update, as I verified it works now for 3.9.0.
