iCloud Sync??
#1
Hi,
New user here, coming from forScore where it syncs my library between iPads through iCloud.
How do i do this on MS?
Ive gone to sync library and selected cloud sync and then iCloud.
I then either get an error message or it says its syncing (ive only put one file in so far for testing)
but sits on 0% forever..
Is there no way to have it just automatically keep two iPads with the same Apple ID in sync?

That's strange - synchronizing to iCloud is generally very fast. For it to hang like that means it's not able to verify that the file has actually been transferred to the iCloud folder and it's waiting for it to finish uploading.

As far as your question, forScore and MobileSheets took very different approaches to synchronization. forScore implemented it to allow users to keep their own devices in sync easier. MobileSheets first implemented synchronization for bands so that users can share songs, setlists, changes, etc. That means that libraries may not be identical, and so there are more options for how to handle merging changes, and that's why it's not automatic. I do plan on eventually supporting an option to automatically synchronize to the cloud for users that just want to keep their own devices in sync, and this will have next to no options (as it will just force every device to be identical). Running the synchronization in the background always introduces challenges though, especially in situations where multiple devices could be trying to push/pull changes at once.

Can you try closing and restarting MobileSheets and restarting that sync to see if it then finishes quickly? Or you could try a different service from iCloud. I'm really not sure why you are encountering issues though (I just completed a sync to iCloud on my iPad and it took around 20 seconds with a small library).

doesn’t seem to make any difference.
I’ve tried it on two separate iPads also. One iPad Pro m2 and one iPad Pro m4.
Both seem to just sit there at 0% Sad

I'm still trying to look for answers, as I'm not able to reproduce any issues on my devices. Please try something for me - change the sync type to "Update Folder", and uncheck "Check for updated files in cloud folders". The merge behavior should be set to "Always use data from device". Can you test that to see if there is any difference in behavior for you? Are both iPads running 18.1.1?

In the meantime, you can also consider using one of the other cloud services to see if it gets past this problem, as iCloud is a little weird in how Apple implemented it. I know this is not a good first impression, but I appreciate your patience.

Thanks,
Mike

I did the simplest test I could think of:

1) Uninstalled MobileSheets and reinstalled through the Apple App Store
2) I imported a single PDF
3) I used the Sync Library->Synchronize to a cloud folder option with the same settings as in your screenshot
4) I tapped "Start" and the sync finished without issue.

I'm still struggling to figure out how to reproduce the problem you saw across multiple devices. No other user has reported this issue either, so the only option would be for me to add diagnostic logging so I can gather information from your device as to why it's getting stuck.

Hi Mike.
Don't worry. You're making a great impression by helping!
Having tried three devices they're all running public beta versions so it's likely that. I'll hang tight until I'm out of beta and hope that fixes the issue.

Alright, keep me posted if you still encounter issues. I would definitely like to get any remaining issues resolved, but that's very difficult if I can't reliably reproduce those issues.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello Mike,

First of all thanks a lot for this great software !!
New user here, for now only on apple devices.
I bump on your post suggesting that maybe you could add an automatic icloud syncing option.
It would be great as i constantly manage things on ipads and iphone (even if it's not easy to read !!! Smile)
Do you plan to make such an option?

As for now what is the best method to keep things synced between the devices ?
I did this way:
Located a MS folder on icloud where i save my entire library and also my settings
As soon as i want, i choose sync library and choose the option with a distant folder

But i see as my library is growing  it will take more time to sync with maybe one or two modifications only...

Do you recommand another better method ?

Thanks a lot by advance and keep on the great work !!!

Kind regards

Hervé

I do plan to support automatic synchronization, but it's going to be a while before it can be added. I have to be realistic with the schedule, and I've already promised quite a lot of things in the short term that I'm working through before I can start focusing on new changes.

I think using the sync library feature to either synchronize over WiFi or to a cloud folder is the best way. You just have to make sure to only push changes from one device at a time before pulling changes down on the other device (to avoid conflicts/headaches).

Thanks for your rapid answer, it's really appreciated here !
I understand perfectly, i will also try the sync between the two devices
First sync on a cloud folder on the device modified then, sync on the second device.
Thanks again !!!
