Companion backup issue
#1
Just testing the latest Companion against 3.9.7 on Android (Galaxy Tab S7+) and Companion on Linux. Everything connects flawlessly, and the 2.2 GB backup comes across fast and with no "stuttering" but always fails with 1 to 4 KB remaining. Wireless are a pair of Netgear WAX220 access points (version 1.0.3.5) on a flat network to the Companion system (Gigabet network) with no routers in play. These AP's are AX4200, 2 and 5 Gig, and signal strength on the tab is full, and connect speed is typically 200 to 400 Mbps (The companion system is wired). If I run the backup on the Tab and FTP it to the same server, it's clean 100% of the time and when sent to my other tab with FTP, restoresvflawlessly.Testing/monitoring on the network reveals no retries, errors, or drops, and nothing else has any issues, so feeling good about the network.

Let me know what else I can provide you with this that may help.

I'll run some tests to see if the problem is specific to Linux. I'll let you know once I have any information.

Sounds good. I failed 5 out of 5, but always with negligible "pending" feels like a file close error, checksum problem, or ???

Question: Is the .msb retrieved by Companion identical to what is produced on the device directly? I uploaded the file from my tab, and could try to push it to another device as a test if so.

Yes, the companion app should be producing a .msb file that is identical to what would be produced on the tablet itself.

It looks like this is not going to be easy to reproduce. I just backed up a 900 MB library on Linux with no issues. Did you install the flatpak or deb version?

Thanks,
Mike

The zip, since there was no tar file.

For what it's worth, with the .msb uploaded from the tablet via ftp on the same network to the same computer, Companion had no issue opening or extracting it. (I still have not tried pushing the msb to a tablet from Companion.)

And, my .msb was 2.4GB, since it included audio files. (80 or 90 songs, all pdf)

I created another backup with a library that was 2.9 GB in size. There were no issues of any kind. So I'm still not sure what to do. Can you share your .msb file with mike@zubersoft.com so I can restore it on a device and try to create a backup of it through the companion app on linux?

Thanks,
Mike

No problem sharing it. How would you like me to get it to you?

Too big, typically, for email, but if you can receive that big, I can send it. (I am away for the holiday though).

If you can just upload it to a cloud service (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc) and share access to the file with mike@zubersoft.com, that would be great.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't use any of those. As a Linux user, I find them useless . . . I should be able to open my server for you to be able to pick it up directly via scp or ftp, but it would be more secure if you can give me the IP that you would be coming from. Or, if you have a cloud service I can push it to. Maybe I have a Google drive I am unaware of . . . (I generally avoid Google wherever possible . . . let me look . . .
