Move Mobile Sheet window to Top
#1
New user here. Sorry if this has been asked before.

I'm running Mobile Sheets within MacOs. Is there a programmatic way to move the Mobile Sheets window to the top of the Z order on the Mac, possibly with a MIDI message?

My use case is this... I'm running Gig Performer. When I change songs in Gig Performer's setlist, Mobile Sheets responds. I press a MIDI button, Gig Performer plays the current MIDI sequence, it goes into a "Performance Mode", and I start playing along. Part of Performance Mode is that some Meter plugins appear. If I've done things right Mobile Sheets is on top, and the meters peek out from behinds the lyrics. (The meters have other UI elements that make their windows a bit large.) If all goes well, Mobile Sheets is on top, and I nail the performance.

But if Gig Performer is on top of the Z-order, the cruft of the meter plugins obscures parts of Mobile Sheets. If critical lyrics or music is hidden, I might need to stop the song, fix it and start over. Not ideal.

If I can force Mobile Sheets to the top when I hit Play in Gig Performer, one more human error can be averted.

If it can't be done today, consider it to be a feature request. Smile

That is not supported in any shape or form with Apple's SDK, especially as MobileSheets is running as an iOS app, not as a MacOS app. It's just not possible to programmatically force an app to be in the foreground. I suppose you could send a message to Gig Performer asking if they can support forcing their app into the background, or to minimize after triggering the event you want triggered, but I'm not sure if that is something they would want to support.

I'm not surprised by the answer, especially given that it's an iOS app within MacOs.

Unfortunately, minimizing Gig Performer woudn't be the right solution either. I want it to be second in the Z-order.

I will update the software in my brain to remember to always set the correct Z-order before starting a song. Smile
