I have loaded almost 500 songs from pdf files, assigned them into albums and populated metadata re genre etc., and backed the content up. Yet the newest ones are only 31.57mb whereas the original is 675mb. Am I doing something wrong?
I don't even wish to shut the tablet down incase it all goes pooof!!!!

Do you have another android device you could use to check the backup?

I think I have the answer. The original backup included a 135 song pdf (4.8mb) that I had not divided, but multiplied that amount by 135 because I did not separate the individual pdf's and use the same pdf, which I'm now doing with last backup.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank this excellent forum and it's fine members for their constant support and vigilance.
