I have lots of wrong or old versions of songs, many of which are identically titled.  And the only way to tell which is the current or correct one is to open them and look.

Is there a way to just delete the current song, when I open it and it's discover it's the wrong one??  Otherwise, I have to keep going back and forth from the list, and I'm always nervous I'm deleting the wrong version, since there's no telling them apart in the list....

At the moment, no, there is no way to delete a song while you are viewing it. If you return to the library screen and view the "Recent" tab, the song you just loaded will be at the top. Long press it and you can delete it from that tab.
