Hello,
I use e-ink version of MSP on an Onyx Boox 13'' (TabX) which runs under Android 11 (official). MSP is in release 3.9.7. Yesterday I was on 3.9.5, I've just upgrade today.
Yesterday, during rehearsal, when I wanted to write some annotations with stylus, the first characters wrote then the UI froze. The only thning I was able to do was either switch off the tab, or close de lid then open it again to get control again on the tablet.
Upgradin from 3.9.5 to 3.9.7 didn't solve the problem.
This morning, I tried again lauching logcat to get some infos. When the tablet freeze, I get un bunch of messages :
Code:
[font=monospace][color=#000000]11-14 08:40:43.604 8105 8188 I InputDispatcher: Dropping event because a pointer for a stylus device is already active [/color]
11-14 08:40:43.604 8105 8188 I InputDispatcher: tempTouchState, displayId=0, down=false, split=false, deviceId=5, toolType=2 ,source=0x00005002[/font]
Not sure if it's useful to diagnose the problem...
Any idea ?

You can uncheck stylus mode in the annotation settings to see if the problem is related to the "Raw Drawing Mode" that lets you write without latency. If so, I can try updating to the latest Onyx library versions to see if it resolves the issue (I can send you a build to install), otherwise I'm not sure what to suggest as I haven't changed any code related to annotating on an e-ink device, other than a problem reported with the crescendo tool.

OK, so far I just unchecked the option
Enter Annotation Mode with Stylus Input and the problem is gone.
Actually, it's a better behaviour likewise because it avoids entering annotation mode when you moves the stylus next to the screen
Thanks for the suggestion.
Olivier.

I definitely can't explain why that would have resolved the issue for you, but I'm glad it did. Thanks for following up.

Well, I understand why you can't explain : actually, the problem is always here. It occured again yesterday during a rehersal. I don't know what to do to help diagnose to fix this.

We can try having you test a build with the latest Onyx libraries. You can try testing it with "Stylus mode" off to verify that the crash doesn't occur when it's off, as that identifies that the "Raw Drawing Mode" of the Onyx library is the problem. Also, in the annotation settings, please make sure you have "Allow editing of embedded PDF annotations" turned off, and perhaps also turn off the automatic saving, just so there are fewer variables at play.
I have the BOOX Tab X as well, and have not encountered this, but I'm happy to run any tests you would like. It can be helpful for me to have the same library and settings as you if you want to share a backup for me to test (share with mike@zubersoft.com).
One last thing I should mention is that you could also try factory resetting the device (make sure to release the license key in the settings and backup the library beforehand if you want to do this). Some users have solved instability issues with their BOOX devices by doing this.

I'll be happy to test a build with the latest Onyx libraries if you send it to me. Please note that we'll be taking a break until the end of the year. So I probably won't have any test results until rehearsals resume in early 2025.
BTW, I can't find the "Allow editing of embedded PDF annotations" option in the settings...
My library is quite big. I'll make a lighter version, try if the problem occurs with it and if so, will send it to you.
The factory reset will be the last thing I'll try because I also use my TabX for work and restoring the whole contents and configuration will be a pain.
One last thing : yesterday, during a gig, a friend of mine which use MSP with a MS Surface, not e-ink,(can't remember which one), seemed to have a similar problem : in fact, she couldn't exit the editing mode, or do anything else with fingers. The only solution for her was to use her stylus. The digitizer seemed to read stylus events only. Is this related or just a coincidence ?
