the ideal tablet for MobileSheetsPro
#91
I can only comment re the Samsung Galaxy 12.2. It does the job well enough providing you keep the OS as Kitkat. The Lollipop upgrade has issues; for me it was the loss of music keyboard midi function, (Korg allows a link between their songbook database and the song selection on the tablet) for others the battery life has been an issue.
The Galaxy has a mini SD slot that allows almost unlimited content (64GB) for MSP. I purchased mine (refurbished) from Amazon last year for less than $380 US. Battery life is excellent and midi/bluetooth (Page-Flip Cicada) connections are now flawless. One small irritation was the need to obtain an OTG Samsung cable to link my Korg USB to the tablet, but once that was obtained it worked as promised.
The typical scanned music page can be an issue because the page proportion found in books (A4) does not fill the screen vertically, and so careful cropping is needed for a decent image, and I'm currently searching for a tablet clamp/stand that I can use to bring the tablet closer to my eyes than the existing music stand clipped to the rear of my keyboard, so that a smaller page is still readable.
I have played around with image programs, stretching an 8 1/2 x 11 full page to the 9 x 16 proportion, and that solves some issues, but if you have a lot of music to load, that can triple the time required.

Thank you, in respect of A4 sheet music how much less size is on Samsung tablet ? Could you post two images of it just for comparison ?
Sad ...looking for a good Tablet....!!! Confused

I have produced a bmp to scale showing the A4, a typical music book page and a 16 x 9 tablet. This will indicate the wide screen issue. You can use something like Muse Score to write a score anew, or cut/paste extra rows of music to fill the page, something I do for those songs I want to polish, other than getting a tablet with a 4 x 3 ratio. (which fits the 9 x 12 page perfectly)

I crop the pages close at the top and bottom so that it looks like one continuous page when vertically scrolled. The notation can still be read when view from a 2 foot distance [portrait] on he Galaxy. When/if I want it really, really big I just switch to landscape. This works well on both the 12.2 and 10.5 screens [Galaxy and Asus]. Just as a note, I use night mode, white on black background. Close cropping works and is usable/readable at arms length on the Nook HD in landscape also.

Thank you very much maintech, your images are very clear and let me understand (finally) the real difference between a 16:9 (16:10) screen size vs 4:3 (3:2).

Best regards, Roberto.

I'm looking for a new tablet (my Hansspad died some weeks ago!!!).

What I'm not understanding about the XORO Megapad is the battery life ? In reality I'm not understanding if the battery is built-in....

Since noone replied to this in the last month: The XORO Megapads don't have a battery, they're supposed to be plugged in.
You probably know that by now, but this may prevent others from wasting their time checking them out Wink.

Also partly on topic:

I found a new favorite for maybe not ideal but cheapest solution i could find at >=12'':
http://geizhals.de/archos-121-neon-16gb-...at&hloc=de

It's only HD+ and the processor is a bit slow for heavier stuff, but it works pretty well with MobileSheets - as long as not editing sheets which admittedly incurs a small but tolerable lag.

I'm only using it as an emergency replacement for my Hannspad - thus only having tested it during band practise - but it's doing alright with a battery life of approx 5 hours.
IMO not bad for a 130€ investment.

I've had a Asus transformer and galaxy tab 4. I also own a first generation surface pro, and am excited about the port over to Windows 8.

I had a 12.2 and it was amazing - the perfect tablet for mobilesheets, UNTIL, the screen started flickering when the battery dropped below 70% and then it was spontaneously reboot. Drove me nuts. I sent it away for repair. Many weeks later it came back and did exactly the same thing. Samsung finally gave me a full refund. The product is off the market and there really is nothing like it (from Samsung)

After two or three years of Galaxy 10.1 and 12.2 use, I am now enjoying the Samsung Galaxy View's 18.4" screen. The resolution is not quite on a par with the previous smaller Galaxy tablets, but it is great being able to view two pages at a time by default. I do miss the stylus integration of the smaller tablets as well, but I think that I will be sticking with the View for the foreseeable future. Referbs can be had for as little as the low $400s.

This looks pretty ideal for having 2 pages at once. Smile

Hi Guys,

I am new to MobileSheets but loving it already.

I recently bought the Chuwi HI 12 with a very good screen identical to the microsoft surface 3 screen.
It has a 128 micro SD slot so I can store a lot of sheets music and mp3 on.

For a review see http://techtablets.com/chuwi-hi12/review/

I think this is a very good and affordable solution to run MobileSheets.

Hi Rogier,

I checked out the Chuwi Hi12 and am considering buying it solely to run MS Pro. The screen looks great and I'm hoping that the underwhelming CPU can at least handle the page turns adequately.

I'd love to hear how MobileSheets is running on your Chuwi after you've had a chance to really put it through its paces.

Thanks!

Yes, the screen looks great and the prize is low, but the quality is no go. I had to send retur 2 of them, they went dead after 3-4 hours of use. But maybe others have a better experience with Chuwi...

I'm sorry to hear that. I really liked the 2160 x 1440/ 4:3 screen (used on the MS Surface Pro 3) and the dual boot (Windows 10 / Android 5.1) capability.

Oh well, back to the drawing board! Thanks for the info and for saving me $270!
