Solution for MobileSheetsPro suddenly returning to the library screen
#46
I should also say that now I'm aware of this 7pm theory, it should be really easy to test out and try to reproduce!

That would be great - thanks. Hopefully the fixes I've made will resolve the issue for your devices.

Note that the default dark mode timing is not a fixed time. It turns on at local sunset. This is why the issue started happening for me months after I turned on dark mode - local sunset was initially long after the time I would practice.

Are you saying you believe this issue is caused by the dark mode at sunset feature?

That's what I was saying.  I just now had it happen while practicing at 17:42 local time. That is roughly current local sunset time. The latest build doesn't "fix" it since the OS is making the app restart and it won't take no for an answer. What now happens is the app saves the current state before the restart and returns to whatever page you were on at that time. On my machine it's sub-1 second for the restart with a small flash.

I'll say that Mike was awesome to work with and really cared about trying to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the info, this is really helpful!  Although I don't believe I ever had the dark mode at sunset feature enabled, although I think I did have the option enabled to reduce blue light at night which I'm guessing is part of the same mechanism and probably triggered by the same daily schedule.

Has anyone tried disabling these features to see if that eliminates the issue?

Also, Mike - if I had two Chromebooks linked via Bluetooth and they restarted at the same time, would they automatically relink to each other, and if so do you have any idea how long would that take?  Just thinking about the possible impact mid-performance.  That said, if it's 100% predictable when this is going to happen, it should be a LOT easier to work around even if it can't be avoided by disabling the feature as per above.

If you enable the option to reconnect at startup, then yes, they should reconnect. Otherwise I think the application is being completely restarted, which means the connection from the previous instance would be lost.

OK, but from memory that reconnection could take several seconds - right? Or if unlucky, it might not work at all if done over Bluetooth because Bluetooth is a very unreliable technology.

So it feels like this is the key question for now:

Maybe I can test this later today or tomorrow.

The fix for this is working mostly well so far but there is an issue. While it does return to the page you were on at the time of the restart it doesn't remember the "history". What I mean by that is if you are in a song that you got to from a "Collection" then when it restarts it forgets that you were in a "Collection". Going back out of the song takes you to the "Songs" category and not back into the "Collection" you were working on before the restart. This might also be true of a "Setlist" as well. Could you add some more context to the saved state before the restart?

MobileSheets actually doesn't know that you loaded a collection, as that just creates a temporary setlist with all of the songs in the collection. What I may have to do is write out the contents of the temporary setlist to reload that temporary setlist. It's a little more tedious for sure, but it can be done, so I'll have to work on it.

My wife and I are both experiencing the same issue in which MobileSheets somehow automatically returns to the library screen.  However, we have both found that the same thing happens occasionally when we are using the browser--not MobileSheets.  Somehow, MobileSheets becomes the active window.  Strangely enough, this happened to both of our computers at the exact same moment yesterday at 10:44 am Eastern time.  We were both using  our browsers when suddenly MobileSheets became active and at the library screen.  We do not have our Chromebooks linked together in MobileSheets, nor linked together in any other manner.

As a troubleshooting method I decided to uninstall and then re-install MobileSheets from the Google Play store and restored the library backup.  However, strangely, three times that day the library screen became active on its own, twice while I was using the browser at the time and once when I was playing a score in MobileSheets. Normally I only experience this anomaly about once a week or so.  However, after the uninstall/re-install, I experienced this three timess yesterday and once  today.

The only way that could happen is if MobileSheets is running in the background and a configuration change occurred such as the dark theme being switched. It must have caused MobileSheets to be reloaded and placed in the foreground.

This is an update to my earlier post a couple of weeks ago about the issue with Chromebooks at random returning to the Library screen.  Today my wife and I were practicing together and both of us were using MobileSheets.  At 10:41 am Eastern time, both our Chromebooks, at the exact same moment, returned to the Library screen.  When this happened last time, both us were using our browsers and it was 10:44  am Eastern time.

Since this has happened twice when our Chromebooks, at the exact same moment, returned to the library screen, this suggests that somehow maybe something related to time is causing Chromebooks to this.  I recall one other person said this happed to his Chromebook at 7:00 pm several times.

Mike you had mentioned that this can only occur when some kind of configuration change has happened.  Can you, or anyone else, think of what kind of configuration change might be based on time of day?

If it wasn't using local time I would think that maybe it's still switching from a night mode to a daytime mode, but I can't really think of anything else off the top of my head that would be related. It would probably be worthwhile to go through all the settings on the device to see if there are any settings that switch things related to text, accessibility, visibility (high-contrast), etc, at certain points of the day.

You'd want to disable things like this: https://support.google.com/chromebook/an...5848?hl=en
